Sierra Leone Public Archives website is a digital archive of digitized records of the 19th century documents.

In my role as Senior Web Designer, I:

  • Met with the project directors to collect project requirements
  • Art directed our Graphic Design intern in the creation of the project's logo
  • Designed the company website as an interactive high-fidelity Figma prototype
  • Supervised 2 Junior Designer interns on the project
  • Developed a responsive website using Bootstrap, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, and PHP
  • Imported and organized project data into MySQL tables from an Excel sheet of 352 collections containing over 82,300 records of digitized images
  • Maintained a MySQL database used to manage the content on the website
  • Added custom project related features to Regenerated Identities, a digital content management service provided by Walk With Web

The initial design for the site was created as a Figma prototype.

Working together with our Graphic Design intern, Thamires Andrade, I conceptualised the logo design which was inspired by the state of the 19th century documents in the Sierra Leone archives.

I added custom features to Walk With Web's content management sevice, allowing the project's team to enter data and content that is uploaded on the site in real time.

The search filter I created used Ajax JavaScript and PHP to query the database. The search results page presents data records, collections of 19th century records, as clickable cards. The collections are organized according to series an accordion list of clickable buttons is provided on the page.

In my role as Senior Developer, in addition to designing the site I was also tasked with managing the database of over 82,000 images. I also worked on organizing the digitized images and preparing them for archiving on the Endangered Archives Programme ran by the British Library. The collection EAP 1366 is currently live on the British Library website.
